.008 TUTORIAL the pensieve children
Tutorial requested by: [info]simply_strange

We are going from Image hosted by Photobucket.com to: Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Take the screencap from [info]thephotobox and crop it into your base. Then sharpen.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Duplicate once, set to screen. Then go to Adjust - Brightness & Contrast - Highlight/Midtone/Shadow. (Shift+M). Your setting should be 0 for everything. The set the opacity to 44%.
Duplicate screened layer. Go to Adjust - Brightness & Contrast - Highlight/Midtown/Shadow, and once again set everything to 0. Set your opacity to 100%
Duplicate the bottom layer, drag it to the top, set it to soft light. Have the opacity 100%

Add a new layer, set it to multiply, 100% (#F8EFE0)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Add a new layer, set it to burn, 100% (#F3EFFB)
Add a new layer, set it to burn, 100% (#F7E6DB)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Duplicate bottom base, drag it to the very top, set it to soft light, 44%. Go to Adjust - Brightness & Contrast - Highlight/Midtone/Shadow, and set everything to 100%
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Add a new layer, set it to color (legacy), 12% (#F5E7C9)
Add a new layer, set it to multiply, 100% (#F5E7C9)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Time for Curves!!!!! Okay, go to Layers - New Adjustment Layer - Curves. This is where it gets tricky...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
you can mess around with these setting to get different colors...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Go to Layers - New Adjustment Layer - Color Balance.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
again you can change these setting so you get different colors.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Add a new layer, set to color (legacy), 26% (#F5A9C4)
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Add a new layer, go to your selection tool, and under selection type pick rounded square. Make a small square, fill it in (#F5AB9D), copy it four more times so its a square.. of boxes?.. place it somewhere on your icon, and set it to hard light, 100%.
Then i duplicated it, set it to soft light, 38%
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Then I used the pen tool to make the text on a slant. I used "Noodle Script", white, size 13 (i think) then i added tiny text and you done.

Tell me what you think & I would love to see what you have come up with!

*points* I made my usericon w/this tutorial. Somethings I couldn't figure out on my program (GIMP) so it didn't turn out the same, but I still learned a lot from the techniques you used. Thanks so much!
